Meeting with United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) in Delhi.

Mr. Theodore Oben, Head, Children & Youth / Sports & Environment Unit of the UNEP Division of Communications and Public Information from Nairobi, Kenya, visited New Delhi on July 12, 2007 in relation to the environment issues connected with CYG Pune. Mr. Rajendra Shende, Head, Ozone Action Branch was also present.

Mr. Oben made a presentation on environmental issues surrounding mega international sports events and UNEP’s association and involvement with them. He also outlined steps necessary to tackle these issues. It was mutually agreed that CYG Pune would collaborate with UNEP to launch a Green Games Initiative to offset the negative environmental issues caused by the Games. It was also decided to appoint an Environment / Green Games Initiative Manager to coordinate the same.
